Deadline for Employee Layoff Extension is Coming

The Aug. 25th deadline is looming for employers to extend any temporary layoffs beyond Aug. 30.

It’s imperative that you visit the Province’s Variance Website to extend employee layoffs!

Businesses requiring an extension must apply for a variance by Aug. 25, and can use the Employment Standards Branch’s new online application

Without a variance, the employer-employee relationship is severed if the employer doesn’t recall employees before Aug. 30. Eligible employees may be entitled to compensation (severance) for length of service under the Employment Standard Act.

If you are having difficulties navigating the site, please contact info@enderbychamber.com for assistance, and the General Manager will be happy to assist you.

This variance makes certain employees and businesses eligible for coverage for the coming months- don’t miss your opportunity to provide support for your valued employees who cannot join you at work due to the pandemic! Thanks to the BC Chamber of Commerce for promoting this important deadline, and remember- your Enderby & District Chamber of Commerce is here to help you navigate through the legislation and paperwork to get the help you need for you and your employees.

Summer Stays in Enderby

While this year has been an unusual one, inter-provincial travel is always a mainstay of our local summer scene.

The Enderby & District Chamber of Commerce would like to thank all those visitors who drop in our Enderby and our

local businesses and have been adhering to protocols for social distancing, respectful conduct and health precautions.

Though we have all been impacted by the current pandemic, it is wonderful that we can enjoy summer together, even

if we have to do it from a little bit further apart! According to provincial guidelines, inter-provincial travel is permissible,

and we thank Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix for helping to choose the best course which balances

summertime accessibility with safety.

Thanks to all who come into our region and respect our guidelines- we wish you a safe, happy and healthy stay.

Be sure to visit some of our excellent local accommodations, such as Mabel Lake Golf & Airpark,  Whispering Pines RV and Tent,

J-Heart-Y Treehouse Bed and Breakfast, Miska Haven Bed and Breakfast and other fine establishments.

All provinces and territories continue to participate in this initiative, in collaboration with the federal government.

Public Art with Teeth!

Look for the absolutely stunning spirit bear mural now taking shape outside the east side of Red Apple in downtown Enderby!

Thanks to the Enderby & District Arts Council, artist Todd MacCormac and, of course, the owners of Red Apple’s building, for bringing this lovely piece of art to our town. It will make a great guardian of the bridge, and a stunning welcome to Enderby from the Mabel Lake road.

Thanks to the BC Arts Council for its public art funding – the BCAC is an invaluable resource for communities in their arts activities!

In addition, member business MacGregor Logistics Ltd is filming the creation of the mural and making a documentary featuring artist, EDAC and local interviews about the creation of the piece, which will be coming in August 2020.

Check out the progress on the mural throughout the weekend, and enjoy the art on our Red Apple shop for years to come.
